Air Mass and Air Flow volumetric Sensor

We supply a range of Air mass and Airflow sensors for many makes and model of vehicle.

Intake Air mass sensors are fitted to modern vehicle engine management systems to enable monitoring of engine air intake providing electrical signal output which is sent to the engine management control unit via wiring.

Mass air flow (MAF) sensors measure weight, volume, or flow of air entering the vehicle engine air intake.
MAF sensor signal is processed by the engine management computer control unit to calculate engine fuelling and load.
Incorrect MAF Intake air sensor, air flow, or wiring failure can cause the engine management warning light (MIL) on the instrument cluster (dash) to illuminate.

FAQ

Does my car have a faulty MAF ?

A faulty MAF will usually throw a fault code but not always. Sensor response time can deteriorate with age.

What if I unplug the MAF sensor ? Will the engine still run?

Depends - On many vehicles the engine will often still run with the MAF disconnected however fuelling will be incorrect. On some vehicles, disconnecting the MAF will stop the engine starting.

MAF sensors can get contaminated with dirt so can they be cleaned? Sometimes a squirt of intake cleaner spray may restore MAP sensor performance.

Will a faulty turbo affect the MAF ? Anything affecting airflow through the engine can cause MAF sensors to read beyond programmed parameters leading to a MAF code.

MAF Intake Air Sensor Diagnostics

To detect a faulty MAF, diagnosis may require fault codes read and live data monitoring using a vehicle diagnostic computer scan tool.
Typical engine airflow fault codes may include fault codes P0100.
Specific manufacturer fault codes may be present.
MAF airflow sensor fault codes may log if mechanical damage occurs to MAF sensor, intake or turbo intercooler pipework, or if wiring connection (open circuit, short to ground, short to power, short to signal wire, bad earth,) or powertrain control unit faults are present.
Fault codes may need clearing after component replacement or wiring repair. In some cases calibration may be required.
An Oscilloscope measures voltage over time displaying as a waveform.
Voltage tests using oscilloscope signal testing methods can be used to monitor MAF sensor values and signal waveform pattern.
